7 Best Tips to Ace Your JAMB UTME 2021

Conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) is a compulsory exam for students who are seeking admission into various universities across Nigeria. For the UTME 2021 scheduled to hold from March 14 to April 4, we run you through seven (7) best guidelines to prepare adequately and excel in the forthcoming JAMB exam.

Revise Your UTME Subjects

Remember that you will be writing the UTME on a total of four subjects including English Language, which is a mandatory subject. It is very important that you revise each of the subjects you will sit for. Do not assume that you are still conversant with the UTME topics that each section covers, especially if this is not your first time writing the JAMB exam. You have to go over the key topics again and again until you master them.

Practise Past Questions

As the saying goes, “practice makes perfect.” You cannot drive a car like a professional without learning how to drive the car first. Hence, it is imperative that you practise UTME past questions on all the subjects and sections you will be undertaking in the exam. You can easily download JAMB past questions on the internet or get the paper-based JAMB series. Ensure to familiarise yourself with questions for recent years in particular. Answer them yourself (without assistance) to gauge your readiness for the exam.

Attend UTME Tutorials

JAMB Tutorial centres will prepare you in the best possible way for your UTME through in-depth lessons, consistent assessments and mock exams. On Classes.ng, we help you find the best JAMB tutorial centres near you anywhere in Nigeria. These centres would surely get you 100% ready to pass your JAMB exam with flying colours!

Improve Your Computer Skills

The JAMB UTME is a Computer-based Test (CBT). The entire exam will be administered via a computer. Therefore, you must enhance your ICT skills to better understand how to navigate the exam questions, complete each section, use the electronic calculator and submit your entries on the computer. Test your computer skills before the exam and identify where you need to improve.

Work on Your Speed

How fast do you answer each UTME past question you practice? On the day of your UTME, you will be given only two hours (120 minutes) to answer 180 questions – 60 questions for English and 40 on the other three subjects. This means that you cannot afford to spend too much time on any question. On average, you should be ready to spend just over half a minute (40 seconds) on each question. That is how fast you’ll have to be.

Practise Without Calculator

If you will be taking subjects such as Mathematics and Physics, you would encounter many questions needing calculation. You should learn to carry out certain calculations without having to use a calculator. In fact, this will help you conserve time and increase your speed during the exam.

Arrive Early for the Exam

Once you know where your accredited JAMB CBT centre is located, ensure you do everything to get to the venue as early as possible on the day of the exam. If the centre is very far from where you live, then travel a day before to avoid the stress and risk associated with travelling on the same day your exam is scheduled to hold. When you get to your centre early, you would not have to deal with the pressure or anxiety of missing your exam and this will help you remain cool, calm and concentrated before the exam commences.
